Aberdeenshire centres around the 'Granite City' of Aberdeen but there are also many other places to visit, especially the historic glen towns of Ballater, Banff, Macduff, Braemar and Banchory with the coastal towns of Fraserburgh and Stonehaven. A coastal county in the north-east of Scotland, Aberdeenshire is bounded by the Highlands to the west and to the south by Angus and Perth and Kinross. The county has a heritage dating back to the Stone and Bronze Ages with many ruins and castles spread over the area.

Historic places to visit in Aberdeenshire

There are large amounts of Castles, castellated houses and fairly palatial historic houses throughout the county, including the veritable attraction of the Royal residence of Balmoral. Many of these places are open to visitors along with the nature reserves and the museums that tell more of the history of the area and, in particular, the unsettled nature of highland Clan community.

Historic Aberdeenshire bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Aberdeenshire

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer quieter rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the area.
