Accommodation and travel ideas in Cambridge

Cambridge, the great University city, is undoubtedly one of the top historic attractions of East Anglia. With a developed settlement on the river Cam having existed ever since it was a defence in Roman times, it has a long history before a group of fleeing Oxford scholars helped found the university in around 1209. With the many architecturally different colleges hiding amongst the tight streets there are a whole host of surprises to be discovered. The city is also famous for its river and wide-open spaces along with the quirkiness of some of the buildings and statues.

Historic Cambridge bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Cambridge

The best way to really submerge yourself into the Cambridge atmosphere is to take advantage of the B&B accommodation that a few of the most historic colleges offer - nowhere else gives you the views architecture and way of life like actually being in one of the colleges! There is also good hotel accommodation within the city and for those looking for something more rural, many of the easily reachable surrounding towns and villages have decent B&Bs, hotels and attractions. Overall, there is a good range of bed and breakfast accommodation.

Historic places to visit in Cambridge

The 31 stunning colleges can be visited at your own leisure or, hopefully coming soon, by way of an audio tour which should ensure that visitors do not miss the quirks, myth and humour surrounding many of the buildings and the activities that have gone on for almost eight uninterrupted centuries. Although there is architecture from many ages, a wander down the narrow Medieval streets is a definite attraction, whilst "the Backs" or series of college gardens and grounds leading down to the river are certainly a place to visit.
