The Cathedral city of Chichester has been occupied since before Roman times, is thought to have been a landing point of the invasion. The city centre is built on the Roman town of Noviomagus, and it is still based on the Roman street grid that converges on the Chichester Cross, a medieval market cross. Chichester is famous for the annual Chichester Festivities.
Historic places to visit in Chichester
The Cathedral is a major and unique attraction in that it and its Norman bell tower are separated and that it is the only Cathedral in England visible from the sea. The city walls are well worth a visit as are the annual festivities if there at the right time. The nearby picturesque village of Arundel has an impressive castle and Goodwood also attracts visitors.
