The Cotswolds is region of gentle rolling hill country in south central England lieing mainly over Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. They have unique appeal and the beauty of its rural landscape is broken by stone-built villages, historical towns, and stately homes and gardens. They have achieved worldwide fame and are often thought of as representative of the archetypal English landscape. The area runs roughly from south west to north-east bordered by Gloucester, Oxford, Stroud and Cirencester.

Historic places to visit in the Cotswolds

Although Cheltenham is the largest city in the area there are many many more places of interest to visit. From other market towns like Cirencester and Burford to the countless smaller towns and villages with its famous architecture setting them apart from the rest of the country; and from gardens and parks to museum and historic country houses, there are historic visitor attractions throughout the area. Many of the picturesque villages have welcoming pubs and restaurants.

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout this area of outstanding natural beauty.
