Coventry, in the West Midlands, is both an industrial centre and a cathedral city, combining industry with culture in an interesting combination. Locally, the city is known as The Three Spired Jewel. Heavily bombed by the German Luftwaffe during World War II, much of the rebuilding has come in for criticism but now major regeneration projects such as the Stirling Prize shortlisted 'Phoenix Initiative' are beginning to make the city a more attractive place.
Historic places to visit in Coventry
Only the tower, spire and outer walls remained of the Gothic Cathedral after the war but the striking new Cathedral stands next door to the old, which is now a memorial garden. In the priory gardens there are pre-Norman monastic remains. Away from the centre are a Roman fort and museums feting transport and flight amongst others.
Historic Coventry bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation near Coventry
The more historic hotels and bed and breakfasts will be towards the centre but there are a decent range of hotels throughout the city along with more rural hotels and B&Bs to stay at within easy reach of the city. Overall, there is a good range of bed and breakfast accommodation.
