Cumberland is an historic county in the north-west of England and borders with Scotland. It is now part of the larger administrative county of Cumbria, but is home to the old border city of Carlisle, the Lake District National Park and England's highest peak, Scafell Pike. The county of the sausage of the same name, Cumberland also has many pretty villages, a long and dramatic coast and many decent sized towns full of attractions.

The county town of Carlisle and smaller "gateway to the Lakes" of Penrith are historic places to visit whilst the other towns such as Keswick and Cockermouth also have many visitor attractions. Apart from the many and impressive Lakes and fells, one of the other reasons that people visit is the specific culture of the area borne out of its geographical isolation.
