Accommodation and travel ideas in Derby
Derby lies on the banks of the Derwent and has Roman, Saxon and Viking connections. It was garrisoned by parliamentarians in the Civil War and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed here with his troops on his way south to attack the English. It developed in the Industrial Revolution with many mills and then through engineering and was granted a Royal Charter in the late 1970s - before it had been one of the few places with a cathedral that wasn't a city.
Historic places to visit in Derby
There is a great mix of architecture throughout the city and whilst the industrial museums and attractions are a major part of the history, the cathedral and the gaol are also popular places to visit. With such a range of history to take in then England's first public park, The Derby Arboretum, is probably worth a restorative visit.
Historic Derby bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Derby
The more historic hotels and bed and breakfasts will be towards the centre but there are a decent range of hotels throughout the city along with more rural hotels and B&Bs to stay at within easy reach of the city in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Overall, there is a good range of bed and breakfast accommodation.
