Accommodation and travel ideas in Glasgow
Glasgow is perhaps the most shining example of how to take the gains of an industrial past to create a future. Despite its wealth being built on the back of ship building and trade it has managed to transform itself into a centre for commerce, culture and tourism. This has been recognised by winning European titles of City of Culture (1990), City of Architecture and Design (1999) and Capital of Sport (2003) and will now host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
Historic places to visit in Glasgow
As would be expected of a city at its richest around the turn of the last century, much of its architecture is Victorian and Edwardian with all the associated craftsmanship and artistry. With Glaswegian architecture surrounded by the "cult of Mackintosh" much is also done in the Art Nouveau but many other styles are present such as Gothic at the Cathedral which is on a site consecrated since 397AD. The Burrell Collection is also one not to miss.
Historic Glasgow bed and breakfast hotel accommodation near Glasgow
The more historic hotels and bed and breakfasts will be towards the centre but there are a decent range of hotels throughout the city along with more rural hotels and B&Bs to stay at within easy reach of the city. Glasgow also gives a very good base to explore into the Highlands and up the West Coast. Overall, there is a good range of bed and breakfast accommodation.
