Leicestershire, despite its diverse and thriving county city of Leicester, is a very rural county with its other urban centres being attractive market towns such as Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough and Ashby de la Zouch. There are then many smaller towns and villages throughout the attractive countryside, especially the Vale of Belvoir with its castle sitting proudly at the end of the ridge. Broughton Astley claims to be the largest village in England and, some even claim, Europe.

Historic Leicestershire places to visit

There are many castles and historic houses in the area along with their associated gardens that people can visit and appreciate their attractive settings. Whilst there is a Cathedral in Leicester there are also many picturesque Parish churches in the smaller towns and villages throughout the county.

Historic Leicestershire bed and breakfasts and hotel accommodation near Leicester

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer quieter rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the area.
