The New Forest is the only National Park in the South East of England and it is mostly within southern Hampshire. It was established by William the Conqueror as a deer hunting reserve and there is still a large population of wild and semi-wild animals roaming there today, most notably the New Forest pony. Situated to the west of Southampton and south of Salisbury there are many small towns and villages throughout the park all the way down to Beaulieu on the coast.

Historic places to visit in the New Forest

The park is the main attraction with its wide variety of wild animals roaming through the forest with the ponies, and the unique flora that exist after almost a centre of grazing. There are other places to visit including specimen gardens, houses, the coast and old villages such as Beaulieu with its Abbey, Palace and museums

Historic New Forest bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in the New Forest

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the forest.
