North Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK and spans from Skipton and York northwards past Richmond, to the coast at Scarborough. It contains the North York Moors and most of the Yorkshire Dales, two of the twelve national parks in the UK. It is not just a very scenic county but has a large amount of stately homes, castles, ruins and six abbeys. Although it is best known for its two cities, York and Ripon, there are a host of other historic towns and villages with Harrogate and Richmond being some of the better known.
Historic places to visit in North Yorkshire
The county has a long and historic past with a military presence from throughout the ages and there are still bases in the county. There are a high number of stately homes, mainly in the area between the National Parks with many ruins, castles, Abbeys and other historic attractions throughout the county. Both of the parks have many towns and villages to visit whilst there are many historic towns on the coast such as Scarborough.
