Nottingham, on the river Trent, is an old market town that has also played host to both the Victorian Lace Industry and the Tales of Robin Hood. Whilst the recently refurbished market square remains the largest square in England, the effect of both Victorian Lace and Robin Hood is still felt buildings, roads and mystique of the town. Although the town dates back to the 1100s and has an ancient castle, the majority of the impressive architecture is in the Victorian and gothic revival styles as this era was when the town was of greatest importance, although many streets demonstrate an intriguing mixture of architecture next to each other.
