Nottinghamshire, with its county town of Nottingham being known as the "Queen of the Midlands", is also home to other towns such as Mansfield, Newark and Worksop as well as the home of the famous Sherwood Forest, Edwinstowe. Nottinghamshire borders South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire and is an eastern part of the East Midlands. It lies on the Romans Fosse Way and as such there are many ruins throughout the county whilst in more modern times it has been the seams of coal running underground that have formed much of the landscape in the north of the county.

Historic places to visit in Nottinghamshire

Sherwood Forest is the main attraction for visitors to Nottinghamshire with historic buildings, settlements and Abbeys throughout it, not to mention the extensive flora and fauna that such a forest harbours. Throughout the rest of the county there are many and varied market towns often with one or more parish churches. Nottingham itself is a historic town with its very individual "Castle" in a commanding position over the town.

Historic Nottinghamshire bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Nottinghamshire

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer quieter rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the area.
