Oxford: bed and breakfast accommodation

Oxford, the oldest University in Great Britain, has been occupied since Saxon times and represents every architectural age since then. The centres is formed mainly by the 39 colleges with the oldest dating back to the mid 13th century and, with their many architectural styles, have helped give Oxford the name the "city of dreaming spires". Previously only open to tours, a few of the colleges are now providing B&B accommodation so that you can now really soak up the academic atmosphere. The whole city is full of beautiful buildings; different architectural styles and serene open spaces, which make it a very special place to be.

Historic Oxford bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Oxford

The best way to really submerge yourself into the Oxford atmosphere is to take advantage of the B&B accommodation that a few of the most historic colleges offer - nowhere else gives you the views of quads or ancient chapels like actually being in one of the colleges! There is also good hotel accommodation within the city and for those looking for something more rural, many of the easily reachable surrounding towns and villages have decent B&Bs, hotels and attractions.

Historic places to visit in Oxford

One of the major attractions of Oxford is the architecture and to make sure you can visit and appreciate these magnificent places, then many choose walking tours. These give you the opportunity to get a good idea of how this old collegiate university, ancient town and architecture from all ages fit together. As well as the colleges there are museums, libraries and bridges to admire, whilst if you feel like doing your tour in a more relaxed way then there are punt trips on the river Cherwell.
