Accommodation and travel ideas in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire's county town, the university city of Oxford, is one of many historic and attractive settlements such as Bicester, Banbury, Kidlington, and Chipping Norton to the north of Oxford; Witney to the west; Thame and Chinnor to the east; and Abingdon, Wantage, Didcot, Wallingford and Henley-on-Thames to the south. Oxfordshire straddles the upper reaches of the Thames River valley west of the Chilterns and is home to vast areas of archetypal English landscape, studded with fascinating towns and villages, many along the River Thames. From the pretty villages to the palaces and university colleges there is impressive architecture throughout the county.

Historic places to visit in Oxfordshire

The obvious and worthwhile visitor attraction of the county is the historic colleges and other university buildings such as libraries, theatres and churches. Outside of the city though there are many fantastic historic houses that are open to visitors including one World Heritage Site, Blenheim Palace. The countryside is littered with very attractive and typical Oxfordshire villages.

Historic Oxfordshire bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Oxfordshire

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer quieter rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the area.
