The second most visited National Park in the World, the Peak District is an upland area in northern and central England. Most of the city lies in Derbyshire but spreads towards Manchester and into Cheshire and Yorkshire. The Park is now known for its beauty and ecological diversity but the major towns, such as Buxton, are famed as being spa towns. The park also has many castles and stately homes with the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, Chatsworth, being the most famous.
Historic places to visit in the Peak District
On top of numerous great and opulent houses there are also museums dedicated to the areas more industrial heritage based around mines and mills. There are many picturesque villages throughout the park, many with parish churches dating back as far as the 14th century. Towns such as Matlock and Bakewell, which gave its name to the tart, are full of visiter attractions.

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the park.
