Accommodation and travel ideas in Perthshire

Perthshire has Perth as its county town but most of its heritage and essence can be discovered in and around its other towns such as Aberfeldy, Crieff, Dunkeld, Birnam, Pitlochry, Forgandenny, Bridge of Earn, Crainlarich, Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus. The county is land locked but crossed by many well-known rivers and affords the county to spread from rich agricultural straths in the east, to the high mountains of the southern Highlands. As such the area is very popular for some of its buildings, the beautiful scenery and the abundant flora and fauna.

Historic places to visit in Perthshire

One of the most popular attractions is the area around Blair Castle and the town of Blair Atholl as there is the castle to visit, many visitor centres on the working estate and some of the great scenes of the southern Highlands. Away from Blair there are many great and distinctive Glens to visit, with Munroes to scale or small villages to explore. There are many Castles and historic country houses to visit both in the glens and down on the straths. Notable famous attractions include Scone Palace, Dunkeld Cathedral, the many four-poster stone formations that can be found near Strathtay and Strathmore, and Birnam Wood and Dunsinane Hill, famous from Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Historic Perthshire bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) and hotel accommodation in Perthshire

The more historic hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation tends to be towards the centre of the older towns. For those that prefer quieter rural locations then there are many hotels, pubs and B&Bs in the smaller towns and villages throughout the area.
