This city on the western edge of the Fens has an ancient past with settlement in the area dating back to before the Bronze Age. This site also shows evidence of Roman occupation. The Saxon period saw the establishment of an abbey, which later became Peterborough Cathedral. It is also in easy reach of Cambridge, London and Norfolk Broads.
Historic places to visit in Peterborough
The famous attractions here are the Cathedral that can trace its roots back to an Abbey in 665AD, and as a cathedral back to the 12th century. Flag Fen shows the town's city back to before the Bronze Age which makes it a fairly unique visit. There is agreat array of architecture throughout the town and the Museum and Art Gallery reveals more about its history. There are historic houses such as Burghley within easy reach.
