Reading is often thought of as commuter town but boasts the ruins of a medieval abbey, the rivers Thames and Kennet and the beautiful surrounding Thames valley countryside. The town holds several charters showing how it is where parliament would move in case of a plague or rebellion and the town was economically known for the three Bs: biscuits, beer and bulbs.

The free museum tells all of the history of this town, and hopes-to-be City, from Roman times to the present day. In the surrounding areas are grand homes, beautiful gardens and parks plus the Roman ruin of Silchester.
