Situated in North Yorkshire at the confluence of the the Laver and Skell with the River Ure, Ripon is one of the smallest cities in the UK and some think it to be the oldest. Its Cathedral is the centre of the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds and owes its origin to the 7th century Abbey, of which the crypt remains. There are other ruins of chrsitian places of worship around the city.
