Shropshire is the largest inland county in England and whilst it doesn't have any cities it does have many historic towns including Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Newport, Oswestry, Whichurch, Market Drayton and Bishop's Castle. Shropshire borders Wales on one side, the West Midlands on the other and is to the south of Cheshire. The Ironbridge gorge is a World Heritage Site and is advertised as the Birthplace of Industry whilst the Shropshire Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Historic places to visit in Shropshire
The country of town of Shrewsbury boasts a great history and architecture with both a Castle and a Cathedral. Shropshire has a varied heritage with both industrial developments occurring here with the back drop of some of the most beautiful scenery in the from of the Wrekin; many of the villages in this area are very attractive and have parish churches. Throughout the area there are a mixture of natural phenomena, historic castles and country houses and gardens.
