Staffordshire boasts two cities of Lichfield and Stoke on Trent even though its county town is actually Stafford; other prominent towns include Tamworth, Burton upon Trent, Uttoxeter and Newcastle under Lyme. The county is land locked and part of the West Midlands thus bordering with many other counties. Part of the National Forest is in Staffordshire and both the north and south portions of the county are hilly, with the moorland in the north and Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the south.
Historic places to visit in Staffordshire
There are many castles to visit throughout the county, some dating back Norman times, that represent controlling efforts and garrisons through the ages. There are also various historic country houses and their gardens that are open to visitors, whilst there are some museum attractions informing more on the changes and industry forms that have been present in Staffordshire. Lichfield Cathedral, along with some of the parish churches in the market towns, are also worth a visit.
