Stratford is an attractive market and parish town in South Warwickshire but is famous throughout the world as being the birthplace of playwright and poet, William Shakespeare: a fact that has left an inescapable mark on the town. Its routes are still to the Anglo-Saxon market town that traded, slaughtered and processed sheep from the Cotswolds through the centuries.
Historic places to visit
Unsurprisingly, the main attractions are the theatres and the originally and well preserved homes of Shakespeare and his connections. Whilst the latter are certainly worth the visit, the theatres are also home to some of the great Shakespearean productions on the road today and would be a pity to miss. There are many museums of Stratford's history and particularly of the time of Shakespeare's birth and life.
Historic place to stay
There are a decent range of historic hotels throughout the town along with more rural hotels and B&Bs to stay within easy reach of the town, and the metropolis of Birmingham just over 20 miles away.
