This small cathedral city is the only city on the county and the most southerly in the United Kingdom. Whilst it built its fortune on trade and then as a stannary town for the local mining industry it is now an administrative centre for the county and profits from the leisure industry. It dates to Norman times, raised an army for the King in the Civil War (so lost the Royal Mint under Cromwell) and has a mix of architecture but with Georgian prominence.
