Wales, with many miles of coast on the west and a long border with England on the east, has a history as ancient and diverse as the rural landscapes to be found all over it. With Bristol and the West Country close to its south border and the populous Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire to its north, it has become more accessible with its increased tourist attraction. South Wales houses the major Welsh cities such as Swansea and the capital, Cardiff, whilst North Wales is more famed for its tourist resorts like Llandudno and the mystical island of Anglessey. Mid Wales is more sparsely populated but breathtaking mountainous area of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. The whole country is littered with Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and North Wales Castles are a World Heritage Site.

The North is home to the seaside and more popular tourist resorts with some impressive castles to visit further inland, whilst the middle region is famed for National Parks of Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia.
