Across the bridge into the village of Eton is a result of royal benefaction; Eton College that has existed since 1440 with a 1000 person chapel amongst other fine architecture.
Historic places to visit in Windsor and Eton
The major attractions in Windsor are a visit to the castle and around the royal residences, and if you are there at the right time, get the chance to see the changing of the guard. As it is a royal town there is no escaping the sense of permanence, history, pomp and tradition that surrounds the centre of the town and the Great Park to the south of the castle. In Eton there is the college with its old but still used chapel, cloisters and schoolrooms with a museum to match. There are city sightseeing tours that go around both towns.
