Introduction

The family-owned Aberfeldy Weem Hotel, now affectionately known as ‘The Weem’, is a former 18th Century Coaching Inn.

Guests will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, where the emphasis is on providing guests with an authentic Highland hospitality experience. The Hotel occupies a prominent position overlooking the village of Weem, just a short walk from Aberfeldy, making it an ideal place for a relaxing break, activity holiday or base from which to explore Perthshire.

The panelled restaurant and bar offers dishes that draw from fresh local ingredients; the best of Scotland’s natural larder. Unwind with a drink in the cosy lounge by the log fire, or in sunnier climes, the beer garden and patio provide the perfect place to relax.

History to the present day

Originally an historic Coaching Inn situated at the foot of Weem Rock, next door to Castle Menzies, the hotel became famous as barracks for General Wade’s troops who stayed there whilst building the nearby Wade’s Bridge to forge a crossing over the River Tay in the 18th Century.

A clan society for the Menzies name was first set-up on 6 October 1892 at Weem Hotel. The members joined with the local clansmen of the Castle area in 1894 to help celebrate the Jubilee of Chief, Sir Robert Menzies. He was the seventh chief of Clan Menzies to have led the clan for 50 years and was 77 years old. This event was celebrated on 26 September 1894 (his birthday) and Sir Robert was presented with an illuminated address. He had requested that the donations gathered should not be gifted to him but he would like the Society to set-up a charitable fund to commemorate the event. This was called the “Sir Robert Menzies Benevolent Charitable Fund”. All subscriptions received were to be invested and the interest earned used to help distressed clanspeople.

Food and Drinks

The Weem has been a byword for good food and hospitality for many years. Menus change regularly, utilising the local seasonal larder. Special dietary needs are ably catered for. A wine list from top producers around the world and a fine selection of single malts provide plenty of choice to accompany the food served throughout the day and into the evening.

Dinner is served daily from 6.00pm. Coffees and teas and light snacks including the ever popular Cream Tea are served all day.

A varied lunch menu is available between 12.00pm and 2.30pm and there are always a number of Specials that offer something a little bit different. Sunday Lunches and Traditional Roasts are extremely popular so advance booking is strongly advisable.

Grounds and gardens

The large terraced beer garden at the rear of the hotel, with seating for 20-30 guests is always open no matter the weather, as well as our seated area to the front of the hotel offering fine views across the Strath! Meals can be taken here throughout the day and the rear courtyard is ideal for families with children.
