Introduction

Adamton House is an historic country estate dating back to the 11th Century, and has accommodated some interesting residents from (reputedly) Elvis Presley to Bonnie Prince Charlie’s children. The Executive Double Ensuite rooms are in the main house.

Also situated within the grounds are The Express Rooms, a new annexe which offers rooms for those requiring a budget overnight stay. This lodge-style accommodation offers Twins, Doubles and Singles.

History to the present day

Sir John Blair acquired a charter to the lands of "Adamtoun" under the great Seal, June 16th 1430. The land of Adamtoun and the parish of Monktoun were originally the property of the Monastery of Paisley. While it is known that a house has been on this site since the 1100s, not a great deal has been documented.

The last private occupier of the Mansion and estate was Mr.Carlow and his wife, but with the outbreak of World War II, the entire property was commandeered by the war department. The Mansion served as accomodation for American servicemen stationed at Prestwick throughout the war.

Psychic Visitors have also reported on many occasions that there is a ghostly presence at Adamton. Several sightings of "The White Lady" and "Old TAM" have also been reported on many occasions.

From the early 1940's until 1971, Adamton House was owned by and used as the Officers' Mess by the USAF. One notable American flyer stationed here was Clark Gable. It is also believed that Elvis Presley spent a very short time here on his one and only visit to the UK.

A recent visitor from Australia, whose forebears were employed on the estate, had researched one of her relatives who was employed as a butler at Adamton House. She claimed to find documented evidence that one of Bonnie Prince Charlie's children was hidden at Adamton.
