Introduction

Bridge View Bed & Breakfast is a former Victorian  Court & Police Station, dating back to 1871. It is situated in a peaceful location on the banks of the River Conwy, less than a five minute walk from the centre of the village of Betws-y-Coed. There are three en-suite bedrooms, each individually decorated and furnished. Two of the rooms have an en-suite shower room, and the third has an en-suite bathroom. Each bedroom has a colour TV, wi-fi, tea and coffee making facilities, and a hairdryer. Some have views of the River Conwy that runs beside the house.

Betws-y-Coed is North Wales' most popular inland resort. It is where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries flowing from the west, the Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno. Much of it was built in Victorian times and it is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park.

History to the present day

In May 1872 the Court of Quarter Sessions took a 99-year lease on the plot of land this house stands on and built a combined magistrate’s courtroom, two cells, the minutest of police stations and a sergeant’s house. In 1800, Betws-y-Coed was a parish of 88 houses, four of them empty. The first meeting of Betws-y-Coed Urban District Council was held in the Magistrate’s Court on 1st October 1898 when Mr Robert Parry of Cyrau View was elected the first chairman. The council had nine members and was given responsibility for an area of 3633 acres containing an estimated population of 708. They continued to use the court room as their headquarters until July 1972 when they moved to a modest chamber beside the A5 road, opposite the site of the old Toll House.

Food and Drinks

A hearty Welsh breakfast is served in the distinctive, galleried dining room which is the former Courtroom. All meals are prepared from the freshest ingredients and you can enjoy them in a non-smoking environment. Vegetarian diets are catered for.

On arrival freshly made tea and coffee can be served in the lounge overlooking the river.

Dine at one of the recommended restaurants or cafes and enjoy lunch or dinner.  There are many within walking distance offering a variety of choices including traditional Welsh cuisine.

Grounds and gardens

Bridge View has a peaceful garden with tables and chairs to sit and listen to the sound of the birds and watch the salmon and sea trout jump. Relax and unwind amongst the flowers in the garden beside the River Conwy.

Other facilities

The Guest Lounge is comfortably furnished, very quiet, ideal for bird-watching. Binoculars and many reference books are available and enjoy a pot of tea whilst planning your next day's outing.
