Introduction

The Bull Hotel is Peterborough's only AA recognised four star hotel in the city centre. It is conveniently located in Westgate, at the heart of the business, entertainment and shopping districts of city.

The Standard and Executive ensuite rooms are equipped with direct dial telephone, satellite TV, hair dryer, trouser press and tea and coffee-making facilities.  

The Hotel is positioned directly opposite the entrance to Queensgate Shopping Centre, the largest of its kind in East Anglia, providing access to the Hotel on foot from Peterborough Railway Station which is only a few minutes away.

History to the present day

The Bull Hotel, originally dating back to the seventeenth century, was a small coaching inn with only eight rooms up until 1901. The front entrance and reception area was a courtyard, which provided convenient access from the main street through to the nearby cattle market situated in what is known today as Cattle Market Road.

In the eighteenth century, it was customary for hostelries and inns to be given a "town pound" from the local magistrate meaning that a certain amount of livestock would have to be accommodated in the outhouses as a service to the local farmers staying overnight, prior to Market Day. As a courtesy, stables were provided for resident guests in what is now the hotel car park.

When the motor car became fashionable at the start of the last century, petrol and oils were dispensed from hand pumps at the rear of the hotel.

Food and Drinks

A buffet breakfast is served every morning with a selection of both hot and cold foods.

Enjoy lunch and dinner in the AA 1 Rosette awarded restaurant where contemporary and traditional dishes made from fresh with locally sourced ingredients. On Sundays, a traditional carvery lunch is served.

Pastroudis, open throughout the day, offers morning coffee, light lunches and traditional Afternoon Tea.

The bar is available throughout the day serving a full selection of superb red and white wines, spirits, and chilled beers.

There is ample secure and free car parking for all hotel guests whilst staying at the hotel, via the entrance in Fitzwilliam Street.

Directions:

From the A1: Exit at junction 17. Follow the A1139 towards the city centre. At the 5th junction (signpost Boongate); turn left. Follow the road to a roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto New Road. * Follow this road to a “T” junction and turn right, onto Northminster. Follow the road to a “T” junction. At this junction look ahead and just to the left is the entrance to the car park.

From the A47: Exit at junction with A15, signpost City Centre. Follow the road by going straight over each roundabout until you reach the 7th roundabout. Take the 1st exit off this roundabout onto New Road. Follow directions as above*.

From the A15: Travel towards the City Centre. Follow the road by going straight over each roundabout until you reach the 7th roundabout. Take the 1st exit off this roundabout onto New Road.  Follow directions as above*.

The car park has a barrier system. Pull up to the barrier, take a ticket from the machine and proceed into the car park which is situated at the rear of the hotel.

From the Train Station (on foot): Turn right out of the train station. Follow the road towards the multi-storey car park ahead of you. Take the footpath which leads you over the dual carriageway. Go into the Queensgate Shopping Centre. Walk straight through. At the far end, outside John Lewis, take the escalator to the ground floor. Do a ‘U’ turn and walk ahead. 40 metres ahead is the entrance to the hotel, on the left hand side.
