Introduction
Burnham Beeches Hotel, built in 1727, is a four star hotel ideally located in 10 acres of beautiful gardens and manicured lawns in a peaceful setting yet only minutes from the M4/M40 and Burnham railway station, which has a direct line to central London. It offers both indoor and outdoor leisure facilities including a heated indoor pool and gymnasium.
All bedrooms within the hotel have been upgraded following a multi-million pound refurbishment in February 2008. Furnished in a contemporary style yet still sympathetic to the building's origins, all rooms offer comfortable double beds, duvets and en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower. Some rooms also feature flat screen televisions and air-conditioning.
History to the present day
Originally built as a hunting lodge in what was then part of Windsor Park, the house afforded rest to the Royal hunting parties before resuming the chase. In 1737 the English Poet, Thomas Gray, visited his uncle who owned the house and was inspired to write his “Elegy in a Country Churchyard”. Later, the house, known as Cant’s Hill, became the property of the Clifton Brown family, famous for their association with the Palace of Westminster.
By 1965 the house, somewhat depleted, was saved and converted into a hotel. Subsequently the house has been extended and refurbished to provide all the comforts of a modern hotel with private bathrooms, telephones and colour televisions in every room, whilst retaining not only the ambience of a fine country house, but also its proud history stretching back to the 18th century.
Food and Drinks
Gray’s Restaurant (AA Rosette Awarded) is located within the original Georgian mansion and combines elegant surroundings with contemporary cuisine. Open for both lunch and dinner most days, this is the ideal venue to get together with colleagues or friends and family. A private dining room is available on request (subject to charge) for special occasions or a family get-together. For a more informal dining experience, try our Georgian Bar & Lounge with food available all day. Or why not dine al fresco and enjoy the beautiful grounds the hotel has on offer.
