Introduction

Set overlooking some of England's highest fells and Bassenthwaite Lake, the Castle Inn Lake District Hotel is just 8 miles from Keswick and offers double and twin en suite rooms with an Indoor Swimming Pool, Sauna and Steam Room, Jacuzzi and newly refurbished gym. Ideally situated for those wishing to explore Bassenthwaite and is an ideal base for discovering the woodlands of Thornthwaite Forest, the trails of Dodd Wood. Enjoy the walks around Bassenthwaite Lake nearby, the northernmost and only true 'lake' in the Lake District; it is renowned for its peacefulness, accessibility and continually changing scenery caused by changeable weather and seasons.

Food and Drinks

In Ritson’s Restaurant, a range of dishes is offered containing locally sourced meats from the Fells; managed, sustainable fish stocks; international and seasonal ingredients; when these are brought together, they reflect modern eating with a very Cumbrian bias. The Head Chef draws strongly on ingredients sourced from the region with ingredients such as Rump of Lakeland Lamb with Truffled Tattie-Pot; Aged Rump of Fell Side Beef and Haggis Wellington with Cumberland Mustard Cream Sauce; Line-caught Brooke Char and Trout; Early Summer Garden Vegetables; and of course, not to forget, Game when in season.

In Lakers Bar you can laze away an hour or two on a cold wet afternoon with the warmth of the fire, sampling some traditional meals. And if the weather takes a turn for the better, enjoy the garden at the back of the hotel where you can be guaranteed a little break from the humdrum of daily life.

Directions: From the M6, turn onto the A66 at Penrith and follow the signs for Keswick and West Cumbria. After 14 miles you will pass the town of Keswick and will approach a roundabout. Follow the A66 sign-posted Cockermouth and turn right at Dubwath, sign posted The Castle Inn Hotel.
