Introduction

Culcreuch Castle Hotel is one of Scotland's oldest hotels with the main hotel building dating from the 14th century, yet now able to provide up-to-date accommodation and facilities, with superb 3-star customer service. It is particularly popular as a wedding venue. Couples come from all over the world to be married in the truly authentic aura of this, Central Scotland's oldest inhabited castle hotel. Guests can choose to stay in an elegant Castle hotel suite or bedroom, some with four poster beds, all with en-suite facilities, Satellite TV and Wi-Fi. All the hotel public rooms are decorated in period style and furnished with antiques, giving the aura and grace of a bygone age of Scotland past.

Within reach of many tourist attractions, Culcreuch Castle Hotel is also accessible for top-quality shopping in nearby Stirling, or the major Scottish Cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

History to the present day

The oldest parts of the Castle date back to before 1296. The Galbraiths of Culcreuch were a warlike Clan and it is certain that the Castle witnessed much warmongering over time with its bottle dungeon in regular use. Penniless, Robert Galbraith, 11th Laird of Culcreuch and 17th Chief of Clan Galbraith, fled to Ireland and disappeared into Irish history. After 17 generations of occupation by the Clan Galbraith, the Napiers took over in 1632 and built a new wing to the Castle. Robert Napier was the second son of the famous John Napier of Merchiston, who invented Logarithms. Five generations lived at Culcreuch before selling the Estate to Peter Spiers from Glasgow in 1769 for a reputed £15,200.

Food and Drinks

Full Scottish breakfast is included in all room rates and is an experience in itself, being served in the Dungeon Diner within the 700-year-old vaults. Fresh Scottish produce is still the basis of what is served today with venues to suit all circumstances - for fine-dining choose the elegant, panelled, Castle Restaurant or for something less formal, enjoy the service and wide varied menu in the Dungeon Diner restaurant.

Weather permitting, you can eat outside whilst children take advantage of the play area. If you can't decide, why not relax by the fire in The Cosy Bar whilst you consider your options.

Grounds and gardens

Culcreuch Castle is set in it's own 1600 acre estate and overlooking its own private loch, with many walks within its boundaries. Please remember this is a working estate as well and be mindful of the livestock when roaming the estate.
