We are an ideal touring base for visits to Dartmoor, Exmoor, the North & South Coasts as well as the Exeter University Campus, which is only 3 miles away.
We offer Single and Triple occupancy rates. Please view Available Rooms for the promotional codes.
History to the present day
Culm Vale is a Victorian Country house, set in the River Exe Valley. A dwelling has been on this site since earliest of times, with the first known mention of "Culm Vale" in the Domesday book of 1086.
Since then, Culm Vale has been added to and improved, with the Victorian addition the latest. Culm Vale was modernised in around 1875 for the then owner Frederick Tremlett and his family. Frederick Tremlett was the owner of the paper mill in Stoke Canon, which was up and running until the late 1970s.
Food and Drinks
Breakfast is served in our rich red dining room. It comprises fruit salad and yoghurt, a selection of cereals, then a full English breakfast with eggs cooked to your liking with freshly brewed coffee or tea.
Unfortunately, we do not provide an evening meal. There are however a selection of pubs in the surrounding villages and Exeter is only 3 miles away, where you will find a selection of restaurants to choose from.
Grounds and gardens
Culm Vale is situated in an acre of mature gardens. We have an outdoor non-heated swimming pool and a large Victorian green house, where we still have two of the original vines producing an abundance of black and green grapes.
Other facilities
There is ample free off-road parking.
