History to the present day

The 18th Century building replaced the former Dolphin Inn which was recorded at the time of the English Civil War. In the mid 18th Century a new grand house was built called Kirtlington Park whose owners were the famous Dashwood family, who at the time were Lord Mayor of London and Chancellor. In 1815 the Dolphin's name was replaced to the Dashwood and the inn was used regularly for village meetings. The Dashwood coat of arms can still be seen today at the inn doors and reads "virtuti Nihil Invium" which translates to "nothing is inaccessible to virtue".
