With 9 bedrooms, there is one four poster room and one family room, the hotel offers an intimate country house atmosphere, and is perfect for solus bookings and special celebrations. Dogs are welcome for a supplement.
The open fire still blazes in the cooler seasons, the hearth is enhanced with stunning floral displays from the garden throughout the summer months and every room has its own individual history.
Stonehenge and Old Sarum, Salisbury Cathedral and Wilton House are all within 20 minutes drive; the magnificent Stourhead Gardens, Longleat House and Bath only a little further.
Awarded the prestigious Romantic Hotel of the Year 2010 Cesar award by the Good Hotel Guide.
History to the present day
A traditional stone building that has been at the heart of the unspoilt village of Teffont Evias for many centuries. Originally built in 1623, it became the dower house of the estate and as such has been at the heart of Mayne family life through many centuries. From the bottom of the ancient cellar to the crest of the original roof, Howard’s House remains a true testament to its role as the warm heart of this heritage village.
Food and Drinks
Full English breakfast is served between 8.00am - 10.00am weekdays and from 8.30am at weekends.
Nick Wentworth takes pride in presenting a table that is essentially English, in tune with the seasons and in harmony with the best sustainable practices. Enjoy the splendid simplicity of perfect English cooking. Working closely with local suppliers and Julian Pughe, who has cared for the hotel’s traditional potager garden for more than twenty years. Originally part of the team at the Michelin starred Chesil Rectory, Winchester, and afterwards the award winning Greyhound gastro pub in Stockbridge. Not only will you find an ever-changing choice on the table d'hôte and à la carte menus, Nick is also very happy to produce particular favourites on request and can source the best of English produce in its own season to order.

If it's a quieter life you yearn for then perhaps a game of croquet on the lawn or relax and enjoy the secret enclosed landscaped garden.
