Introduction

A family inn at the heart of the historic market town of Bungay on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. The new owners who took over the Kings Head in November 2010 guarantee a warm welcome. You may even get to meet the resident ghost! The King’s Head and Queen’s Jules is just off Bungay’s historic marketplace and adjacent to Bungay Castle. It has 13 en suite rooms, a restaurant, bar, guest car parking and facilities for events, conferences and meetings.

History to the present day

Dating back to at least the 17th century with the earliest record dating 1632 when John Walby was inn holder. Parts survived the great fire of 1688 and there is some surviving Tudor brickwork and timbers. The Queen's Jules, formerly Oddfellows Hall, was built in 1884 and may be on the site of the former dungeon of Bungay Castle. Local legend tells tales of an ancient warrior strolling near ruins and a beautiful young woman clad in white haunting the spot where her lover had been put to death in the dungeon.
