Introduction

Knowles Lodge offers luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in the heart of Wharfedale, between Appletreewick and Barden. A family house built in 1938, lovingly restored and refurbished this magnificent Canadian-style ranch house is a stylish, attractive and comfortable spot for guests. Set on a small plateau and surrounded by 17 acres of meadow and woodland, Knowles Lodge enjoys breathtaking views in every direction, in particular over Black Park and towards Simon’s Seat.

Accommodation is offered in four elegant and comfortable en-suite bedrooms three of which are on the ground floor. The three ground floor rooms all face west towards Hough Wood where, in May, you will see a stunning blanket of bluebells. The upstairs family room has an amazing view looking south down the Wharfe valley towards Barden & Bolton Abbey. For single occupancy please use the code SINGLE for available rooms.

Chris and Pam will welcome you warmly with a cup of tea or coffee, preferably on the terrace (weather permitting) where, often as not, you can watch lots of pheasants feeding.

Food and Drinks

Breakfast is served around a large gate leg table where a hot compote of fruit is followed by cereals and a full English breakfast. Porridge is also available on request for those cold winter mornings.

Dinners for a minimum of six can be arranged by prior agreement. Please request this in the Additional Information section of the booking form.

Grounds and gardens

Within easy reach of some of the Yorkshire Dales' most spectacular beauty spots and surrounded by places of valuable historical heritage. The location is perhaps unsurpassed in Wharfedale.

Knowles Lodge is a perfect first night stop for Dales Way walkers starting from Ilkley. The Dales Way runs through the bottom meadow and alongside the River Wharfe, the natural South-West boundary to the estate. Whether you want to walk, cycle, fish, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery, you're certain of a warm and friendly welcome here.
