Introduction

Your hosts Duncan and Camilla and their young family invite you to stay at Ladywell House Bed and Breakfast in Falkland, Fife, to enjoy the homely, comfortable ambience of the house and surroundings. They pride themselves on looking after their visitors, ensuring that their stay is both pleasurable and memorable.

Ladywell House Bed and Breakfast is a former manse, built in 1807, and is surrounded by an acre of beautiful walled garden. There are outstanding views over North Fife and the historic and picturesque village of Falkland, where Falkland Palace is an important visitor attraction.

The property has a large, comfortable Drawing Room with a further large conservatory where meals are taken. Choice of six guest bedrooms including family, double and twin rooms. Thoughful extra's included in all rooms such as; hair dryers, full length mirrors, radio alarm clocks, tea trays with homemade biscuits and luggage racks. Mending kits, complimentary shaving kits, and toothbrush & paste are also available should you have forgotten your own.

 

Children are welcome, (cots and highchairs are available for babies).  Pets are welcome by arrangement.

History to the present day

Built in 1807, this house was previously owned by Francis Shand-Kydd, the mother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Ladywell House in Falkland Fife, is believed to have been visited by Diana and her sons, Princes William and Harry.

The property was owned by the Church of Scotland until 1987, and was built for the Rev George Buist, and designed by Scottish architect, Thomas Barclay. The house was built on land formerly owned by the Knights Templar and the farm above the house is called Templelands. The house next to Ladywell House is Chapelyard, built in the yard of the Chapel of Our Lady by the Templars.

The name Ladywell comes from the Well of Our Lady which is situated to the rear of the property. The house takes its water from St John's Well, which until recently fed the town of Falkland.

Food and Drinks

Breakfasts are freshly cooked from locally sourced ingredients, and vegans, vegetarians, those with allergies and those with intolerances to certain foods can be catered for. Home made muffins, freshly cooked croissants, home made jams and marmalade are always available.

Dinners are not currently provided, but there are a number of restaurants in Falkland, 10 minutes walk, which provide a variety of meals.

Grounds and gardens

The house sits in an acre of walled garden and enjoys splendid views to Falkland and North Fife.

Other facilities

Child-friendly and travel cots, highchairs and baby-changing facilities are available. With two small children of their own your hosts are happy to provide baby-sitting if required. Dogs are welcome, by arrangement, provided their owners are well behaved, but may not sleep on the beds.

There are 2 terriers (bitches) at the house that are dog friendly.
