History to the present day
Langley Wood House is part of the historic Hamptworth estate and dates back to the 1750s. It was extensively extended and refurbished in 1908. This was to allow the new owner of the estate, Harold Moffat, to live nearby as he supervised the demolition and rebuilding of Hamptworth Lodge, the main house on the estate. The estate has remained in the same family for over 200 years and hosts a large number of events during the year including a country show and a ten night run of open air theatre production. Langley Wood House is furnished with Edwardian and antique furniture and boosts a magnificent oak panelled hall and beautifully decorated reception rooms.
Food and Drinks
The breakfast at Langley Wood House is second to none and cooked freshly to order - no chafing dishes and greasy sausages here! Cereals, yoghurt and toast with homemade jams can be followed by a locally sourced New Forest Cooked Breakfast with estate produced sausages, bacon and eggs.
Dinner can be taken by prior arrangement at £25 per person for a three course dinner with coffee. This can be enhanced by the addition of a cheese course (£5 supplement). For larger groups you may prefer something more informal. Our 2 course buffet style menu can be taken by prior arrangement at £17.50 per person.
All menus are available on request.
Grounds and gardens
Langley Wood House enjoys a small formal garden to the front of the house and a large lawn surrounded by mature broadleaf trees to the rear. This part of the garden is open to Langley Wood itself and the circular walk within the Nationally important SSSI ancient woodland can be accessed directly from the house.
There are plenty of comfortable garden chairs to relax in and the bird song is wonderful!
Other facilities
The Hamptworth estate enjoys a wonderful position in the northern part of the New Forest National Park. There is so much to see and do ranging from walking, cycling, birdwatching through to fishing, sailing and pony trekking.
