Introduction
Always having been known for great food and wines Inn at Lathones has just been awarded 2 AA rosettes for the 12th year in succession. Recently upgrading the restaurant and several rooms to luxury standards. The sporting theme in the bar was born out of all the great fun had with our golfing groups, famous rugby players, footballers and many other celebraties from the world of sport.
On show, there is one of the most exclusive collections of Music memorabilia found in the UK today. This adorns the walls of the stables, the music room and private function room. The Inn has just been awarded "best music venue in the UK" not bad for a 50 seater venue!!
A recent travel writer called us eclectic, a comment that fits the Inn really well.
History to the present day
The history of the Inn goes back over 400 years. The Stables, being the oldest part, is today the bar where The Grey Lady (resident friendly ghost) and her horse reside. The front house was built in the late 17th century and is watched over by a wedding stone placed above the fire place as its lintel. The couple married in the local Kirk in 1718 and were blessed by the Minister in front of the fire before the festivities started. Iona Kirk and Ewan Lindsay ran the Inn ( then a Drovers Inn) from that day on until Iona's death in 1736. It's said that the two were so in love that when Iona died the wedding stone cracked and Ewan died shortly afterwards of unknown causes. I have often wondered since this story was told to me if the Grey Lady is in fact Iona putting her horse away?
The area between St Andrews and Lundin Links was plagued by a highwayman known as "Wee Mad MacGregor" a colourful character who was under five foot and was disfigured on the one side of his body, making his face droop. He drooled from the corner of his mouth and reputedly drank and ate at the Inn following his "outings"
Food and Drinks
Menus now feature much less formal dining, with less expensive menus, new oak tables in the restaurant and higher tables in the bar areas for bar food. The menus also allows for bar suppers or just the opportunity to curl up on a deep leather sofa and have a bowl of homemade pasta with fresh clams!
Bar meals are available so you can just curl up on a sofa and order an afternoon tea between 2.30pm and 5.00pm or maybe try some creamy wild mushrooms on brioche, homemade soup, fish and chips or a game casserole, plus lots more between 5.30pm and 9.30pm daily.
