Introduction

Linthwaite Country House Hotel, one of the finest luxury Lake District Hotels, which is located in the heart of England's beautiful Lake District, with a sublime hilltop setting overlooking Lake Windermere and the surrounding Lakeland fells. The hotel offers luxury accommodation with its thirty superbly decorated bedrooms (some overlooking Lake Windermere and the Lake District fells). Situated in over fourteen acres of its own gardens and woods Linthwaite is ideally situated for walking, cycling or touring the Lake District and is close to all the major heritage attractions including: Beatrix Potter's 'Hilltop' and Wordsworth's homes. All rooms have as standard: En-suite facilities, TV & DVD player (free library of DVDs at reception), tea & coffee making tray, Molton Brown bathroom products, waffle bathrobes, CD player/radio, hairdryer, iron/ironing board or trouser press, mineral water, telephone, free Wi-Fi, (some rooms have IPod docks). Ground floor rooms available. Mobility Level 1 room with parking space.

History to the present day

The hotel was formerly an Edwardian Country House built in 1900. Originally with five bedrooms and was set in seven acres.

Food and Drinks

Full English breakfast includes local food specialities such as Ayrshire style sweet-cured smoked bacon, Cumberland sausages and local black pudding. Vegetarian breakfast alternatives are also always available. Continental breakfast includes cereals, croissants and toast, fruit, freshly squeezed juice and tea or coffee. The hotel provides an extensive alternative breakfast menu. Breakfast is served in the restaurant from 8.00am until 10.00am and 8.30am until 10.00am on Sundays. Room service for breakfast can also be served.

Grounds and gardens

Linthwaite overlooks Lake Windermere and is surrounded by 14 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds. The hotel even has its own tarn where you can fish for brown trout or just listen to the silence and unwind. The terrace offers stunning views across Lake Windermere and the mountains beyond.

Other facilities

Guests have complimentary use of the Old England's new spa facility with pool, sauna, steam room and spa bath. Complimentary fishing in the tarn (rod license required) - 14.5 acres of highly maintained grounds for guests to use.

Directions: From the North: Leave the M6 at Junction 39 (Shap) and follow the signs to Kendal. At Kendal follow the one-way system to Lakes/Windermere. At the large roundabout north-west of Kendal take the B5284 (Crook Road) sign-posted 'Hawkshead via Ferry', keeping the Gateway Inn on your right. Drive down the B5284 for 6 miles. The hotel is on the left one mile past Windermere Golf Club.

From the South: To reach the hotel turn off the M6 at Junction 36. Follow the dual carriageway for about 8 miles. At the large roundabout north-west of Kendal take the B5284 (Crook Road) sign-posted 'Hawkshead via Ferry', keeping the Gateway Inn on your right. Drive down the B5284 for 6 miles. The hotel is on the left one mile past Windermere Golf Club.

By Train: The nearest train station is Windermere (around 2 miles/10 minutes/ £7 by taxi), with regular connections to and from Oxenholme station which is on the main London Euston to Glasgow line. Oxenholme is 2 hours 39 minutes by train from London Euston. There are also trains from Manchester Airport to Windermere (some direct) which is a 2 hour journey.
