History to the present day
Lorne House, locally famous as the childhood home of the Rev. W J Awdry, creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, is set in the picturesque village of Box.
Food and Drinks
We offer a full English breakfast served in the dining room at a time of your choosing.
As your hosts we have a thorough knowledge of the local area and would be happy to give recommendations and make reservations on your behalf. In addition to the pubs in the village, Corsham is only a couple of miles away with more places to eat and drink and of course Bath is only a short ride away with great public transport links if you’re looking for a livelier evening.
Grounds and gardens
The garden is secluded having established fruit trees. The Rev W J Awdry's father constructed a model railway in the grounds which sadly does not remain but the legacy of Wilbur's creations lives on.
