Introduction

Magdalen House is a Georgian property built in 1829 and set in the heart of peaceful countryside in West Norfolk. The old part of the house retains many original features from what were once two cottages.

We are open all year except for Christmas week. Your suite is in the old part of the house with a corridor to your own bathroom. The bedroom is fully equipped with Freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities and for those with a sweet tooth a dish of sweets is always on hand. The library and sitting room gives you extra space to relax so as not to be confined to one room.

Our prices are based on two people sharing The Blue Room. If you wish to book for a single person, please enter the code SINGLE in the Promotional Code section and the price will be reduced accordingly.

History to the present day

Set in the older part of the village in what was once an area of "Buntings", hence Buntings Lane ,we believe this to be on the edge of the Warrens surrounding Brandon, a town once known for its rabbit fur and gloves as well as food. Our research leads us to think that the Buntings tribe were pre-Anglo Saxon.

Over time the house and land have been a nursery, pig farm and today a smallholding, though we now only have time for our Carriage Horses and pleasure drives for our guests.

Food and Drinks

Your breakfast is served in the beamed dining room overlooking the fields. On cold days we light the woodburning stove in the inglenook fireplace, on warm days the door is opened to fresh air and birdsong.

Grounds and gardens

The garden at Magdalen House was created from scratch. There are many 'rooms' to be explored and sat in. Guests are invited to wander but need to know we have dogs who may join you, and therefore it is vital that all gates remain shut. If you have the urge to weed, please feel free.

Overall, our plot is 2.8 acres, with paddocks containing our Carriage driving horses, Bobby D and Del Boy.

Other facilities

Carriage rides are offered from Magdalen House, at extra cost. Simple pleasure rides from here at Magdalen House to a wide variety of locations in the area, or just a leisurely trot through the country lanes. A fantastic way to travel and unwind and see the wonders of the surrounding countryside.

, August 2010: well run B&B. excellent standard and very friendly proprietors. Would thoroughly recommend and visit again.

, August 2010: The "Blue Room" is lovely and very well appointed! The bed is great, I had a fantastic night's sleep. The bathroom is of superior quality, enormous bath, tons of hot water, and quite lovely. The full English breakfast was excellent and the host and hostess very kind and good company. Altogether an excellent B & b!

, April 2010: The setting was idyllic and peaceful, the room cosy and the bed comfortable, Keith & Lorna made us so welcome that we felt more like we were visiting friends than paying guests. All in all an experience worth repeating.
