Introduction
The Ness House Hotel is a Georgian building, situated in the village of Shaldon, overlooking the Teign Estuary and close to the beach. Attracting holiday makers and day trippers, there are plenty of activities for families, including Shaldon Wildlife Trust, an 18 hole pitch and putt and Smugglers Beach is just a short walk away.
Each Summer the village hosts the Shaldon Regatta with a range of fun and sporting activities on offer, and Teignmouth Carnival with a fireworks display to round off the week.
History to the present day
The Ness House Hotel is Georgian, built in 1810, is on the outskirts of Shaldon village overlooking the Teign Estuary and close to the beach.
Food and Drinks
The Ness is part of a family owned brewery - Hall & Woodhouse - and offer ales, lagers and wines. The menu is traditionally British and everything is freshly prepared and cooked to order.
Breakfast is served to both guests and non-residents, from 8.00am to 10.00am and tea cakes, muffins and cream teas in the morning and afternoon are also available.
Lunch is served from 12.00pm to 3.00pm and dinner from 6.00pm to 10.00pm every day of the week and the menu changes twice a year to coincide with the seasons. In addition, the wine list is to complement your choice of meal. The Ness welcomes families and has a children's menu with healthy options. There is a range of Specials which the team will read to you at the table.
On Sundays there is a roast dinner with 4 meats to choose from and all the trimmings, served from 12.00pm - 3.00pm.
The restaurant also run a Pre Fixe Menu which represents excellent value for money and is served at both lunch time and in the evening.
Grounds and gardens
The house has 110 covers and can seat up to 100 outside on the patio where you can enjoy the views of the estaury and South Devon coastline.
Other facilities
There are two designated disabled parking spaces at the front of The Ness, together with an easy access toilet. There is parking for 10 cars. There are baby changing facilities with highchairs and a travel cot.
A ferry runs between Teignmouth and Shaldon, and fishing at the mouth of the estuary is a popular pastime. Situated close to The English Riviera, Torquay is a local shopping hotspot, with a marina, and it's just a short drive from Shaldon. There are also very good transport links to Exeter and Plymouth. The Hotel is on the South West Coast Path, and as such are an ideal spot to end the day, enjoy freshly prepared food, a relaxing night and a hearty breakfast in the morning to set you up for the day.
