Introduction
Nestling in the Dumfriesshire countryside is former coach house and village inn, Nether Boreland. The farm has two double rooms and one twin. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, TV, clock radio, hair dryer etc.
The African themed Guest Lounge has a huge open fire where guests can relax with music or TV.
After a freshly cooked Scottish breakfast, you can explore the Borders countryside or take part in one of the many sports available locally including golf, fishing, stalking and quad bike riding.
Boreland village is about 7 miles north of Lockerbie where there are good local amenities and a golf course. Lochmaben, about another 5 miles away, also has a golf course and some lochs, one of which offers sailing. If you head north from the village towards Eskdalemuir you can lose yourself in the wilds of the Borders, one of the emptiest landscapes in the UK.
History to the present day
The coach house is the former village inn and was a meeting place for local shepherds and farmers. It retains a characterful atmosphere and has been sensitively decorated to reflect its age.
The nearest town is Lockerbie, sadly well known around the world for the Pan Am terrorist attack in 1988. There is a disaster memorial in the town and an exhibition at the Dryfesdale Visitor Centre.
A little further away is Dumfries, an excellent shopping centre and full of history. It was the birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard, who lived in the area for most of his short life.
The village of Moffat is a great place to take in, an attractive 19th century spa town, it is full of wee shops and cafes. The Station Park in the summer is a riot of planting and regularly wins prizes for the floral displays.
