History to the present day
The building appears first in the records of 1612, when Robert Bell was the Rector. There may well have been a priest's house here from the time of the church’s foundation in the 12th Century, and certainly from the early 13th Century when the parish of Stirchley was carved out of that Shifnal. In 1662, during the incumbency of George Arden, the Rectory was described as 'an house and barn wth. other buildings wth. two yards adjoyning to ye Church yard.' A yard at that time referred to a loosely defined area of land. In 1698 as a result of a visitation by the Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry during the tenure of George Arden Junior, it was said to be a two-bay house with a separate kitchen.
Food and Drinks
A well cooked English breakfast is included made with locally produced ingredients, homemade bread and jams, plus eggs from the properties own hens. Breakfast is served in the charming dining area, with it's exposed beams and open fireplace. Freshly made packed lunches, delicious afternoon teas, and evening meals can be ordered on request. Alcoholic beverages can be served with evening meals but are required to be purchased by the guest and can be stored in the properties fridges for a small charge.
Grounds and gardens
Set within an acre of grounds the garden slopes down from the house, providing views through the trees. Mainly lawn with rose beds and shrubbery providing colour and scent in summer. The house owns a number of chickens, grows vegetables and soft fruit. Guests are welcome to use a bbq area in the grounds. Access to the top of the garden is possible for the less mobile and there is a block paved path from the house to a patio with seating, affording views down the garden.
