Introduction

If you’re looking for a country house experience that is less formal than a hotel but with more facilities than a B & B, Pentre Mawr could be the perfect choice.Located in the Vale of Clywd between Ruthin, Denbigh and St Asaph, not far from Llangollen. The house and the surrounding farm has been family run for 400 years. New canvas lodges are now open. Pentre Mawr is the first place in the UK to take 'camping' to such a luxurious level, full bathrooms with under floor heating, freestanding baths and showers, and large twin vanity units. Bedrooms with super king size leather beds, fully heated and and a sitting area with an African feel. Each has a private terrace with it's own hot tub and use of the main house, swimming pool and restaurant for sumptuous food.

If you want to get out and about, the surrounding Clywdian hills are great walking country. Alternatively, take a ride on Snowdon’s steam railway, a ghost-walking tour of Ruthin, try your hand at fishing or climb the (spectacularly steep) old Roman road nearby.

History to the present day

The farm has been in Graham's family for 400 years and since taking over Graham and Bre have carried out extensive refurbishment. It’s full of family memorabilia, period furniture and fine antiques and the result is classic country styled guest house and hotel - with a relaxed atmosphere.

Food and Drinks

Full Welsh Breakfast is served in the Morning Room, with bucks fizz as well as yogurts, fruits, cereals and croissants are available. Breakfast is usually served between 8.30am and 9.30am but if you need any other time just ask. If the weather behaves, breakfast may be served on the terrace beside the salt water swimming pool.

Dining is informal and served between 7.00pm and 8.00pm with a menu which changes daily according to what’s in season and available locally, and house-party dining is available for larger groups. Pre dinner drinks are served in the Drawing Room and the menu and wine list can be perused. Dinner is served either in the Oak Room if all our guests are travelling together or on individual tables in the Conservatory. Been in Wales for a week and not had any Welsh lamb………, well this is the place.

Grounds and gardens

Pentre Mawr is set in nearly 200 acres of meadows, park and woodland. There is a hidden walled garden, an outdoor heated swimming pool, and a pool terrace which provides the perfect place to soak up the sun, sit and read or just relax in peace.

Other facilities

Guests are welcome to unwind in the large drawing room or the study. Dogs are welcome and their is a menagerie of resident cats and dogs and even  doggy towels are provided by the front door. There is ample of off-road parking available for guests. If you want to get out and about, the surrounding Clywdian hills are great walking country. Alternatively, take a ride on Snowdon’s steam railway, a ghost-walking tour of Ruthin, try your hand at fishing or climb the (spectacularly steep) old Roman road nearby. Then return to base and relax by the open air pool, enjoy a glass of champagne in your private hot tub, or refuel with a restorative afternoon tea by the fire.
