Introduction

Located in Richmond Upon Thames, a classic four star hotel perched on the side of Richmond Hill, overlooking one of the most famous stretches of the River Thames and just eight miles from the centre of London. With an award winning restaurant with views stretching out across the River Thames and surrounding meadows. All 60 guest rooms are meticulously appointed for your utmost enjoyment and comfort. Rich in furnishings, each bedroom has been individually designed to complement the character of the hotel.

History to the present day

Built in 1865 this Hotel's individuality remains as valuable as its independence. The most notable feature of the interior is its magnificent Portland stone staircase; reported to be the tallest unsupported stone staircase in Europe. The paintings on its ceiling were executed by Ferdinando Galli (1816-97), an Italian painter then briefly working in England (he exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1866).

The hotel looks out across Petersham Meadows to the bend in the Thames. The meadows are protected from development by an Act of Parliament passed in 1902, and renewed in 2002, to safeguard the famous view from Richmond Hill; best seen from the Terrace Walk at the top of Nightingale Lane. This view has been painted by many famous artists, including Sir Joshua Reynolds (for whom Wick House, next door to the Wick, was built) and J M W Turner (who lived across the river in Twickenham for many years).

Food and Drinks

Head Chef Alex Bentley joined in 2004 having built his career as Head Chef of Monsieur Max in Hampton, Middlesex, where he held a Michelin Star for five years. His menus change with each season and always pay homage to the great British classics that the restaurant has become known for.

This award winning restaurant offers a relaxing dining experience at breakfast, lunchtime and in the evening, seven days of the week. Guests can enjoy fine wines from the Cellars while unwinding in the bar or on the terrace, overlooking the River Thames. There are also several private rooms for dinner parties and receptions including The Cellars.
