History to the present day

For many years The Punch Bowl Inn was a well known Lakeland gastro pub. In 2005, the Inn was bought and completely refurbished. Since re-opening the inn has won many awards, including regional dining pub of the year from Lake District life magazine, and The Good Pub guide. Currently Michelin "Best Pub in Britain" for 2009, and the Inn has just been awarded a "Cesar" award by the Good Food Guide for 2010.

Food and Drinks

Full English breakfast served from 8.30am-9.45am in the light and airy restaurant with its polished oak floorboards, comfortable leather chairs and stunning stone fireplace which provides a unique relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy either lunch or dinner. The kitchen team concentrate on providing a menu which features the best of local, seasonal produce which can be enjoyed in either the bar or restaurant.

Enjoy champagne by the glass, a range of wines, foreign draught and bottled beers which are served alongside a range of hand pulled real ales in the relaxed bar area. Two rooms off the bar provide ample space to eat and drink or just to relax with a pint and a daily newspaper in front of an open fire.

Other facilities

All nine rooms take their names from the list of past incumbents of Crosthwaite Parish church, starting with Edward Whitelock who was vicar from 1569 - 1572 through to Thomas Heelis who came to St Mary’s in 1900.

Although each room is individually designed they all have flat screen TVs, Roberts Revival Radios and adjoining bathrooms with underfloor heated limestone floors, free standing roll topped baths and separate powerful showers.
